Hi. I’m Matt. I like horror comics, terrible Chicago sports teams, and long walks through hell…as in, I’m REALLY enjoying A Walk Through Hell from Aftershock comics. In issue #1, we were introduced to two anti-Trump detectives (the hate is strong with these two), who stumble upon a strange occurrence in which a tactical team of officers enters a warehouse and immediately returns, having lost their damned minds. How often have you thought to yourself “I would love to be a marine in James Cameron’s Aliens and kick some xenomorph ass? If you answered often, then what the hell is wrong with you? A need for psychiatric evaluation aside, you now have your chance to experience the bug hunt you’ve always dreamed of, as Pure Imagination Studios and Foxnet Destinations have created what is easily the best VR experience out there in Alien: Descent, going on now in Orange County, California, at The Outlets mall... Imagine if the black plague wasn’t just a horrible illness that caused many to perish back in the mid fourteenth century, but instead was a zombie virus sweeping medieval Europe? That was the concept of Aftershock’s Pestilence: A Story of Death, written by Frank Tieri (Jughead: The Hunger) with art by Oleg Okunev (Red Fury)... Each is unlike anything else out there in the horror genre right now... When it comes to movie monsters, werewolves have sort of become the bastard stepchild of the horror genre. Talk to most horror fans, and they’ll tell you they love vampires, or zombies, or ghosts, but its become rarer and rarer these days that you’ll find those of us that tell you we can’t get enough of those hairy beasts that howl at the moon... At this point in time, I think its fair to say that most if not all of us are experiencing a tinge of techno fear. Whether its Facebook selling all of your data, or Alexa emailing your most private conversations about a friend to said friend, the paranoia revolving around technological upgrades is real... Your heavy feet thud against the ground. Cold moonlight shines down on you through the trees of Camp Crystal Lake, otherwise known as Camp Blood by the locals who fear your legend. Ahead, a camp counselor, your victim, enters their quiet cabin, unaware of you and your grisly intentions. You are Jason Vorhees, the iconic hockey masked killer... Think about this for a moment: At first glance, magic and horror seem like a perfect pairing. Magic in and of itself is simultaneously wondrous and mysterious, awing and terrifying. On one hand, magic can bring a princess back to life with a kiss, and on the other hand, it can raise an army of ravenous dead... |
