Okay, stop the presses, this could be the news of the day right here. If you haven't already seen Ready or Not from the Radio Silence team this year, then you've missed a treat. The film is one of the bloodiest and funniest horror films of the year, and now it seems those same filmmakers may be doing a horror-comedy with Grizzly circumstances... Writer/director Jordan Downey has long been a favorite of mine. And an underrated one at that. If you have any knowledge of the talented filmmaker, than you know that, whatever you may think of his past work, the guy knows how to do quite a lot with what very little has been available to him. His latest work, The Head Hunter, proves that and then some... Welcome to Harker Island! Your tourist destination for late night runs through the woods, panicky tree climbing, and dark scary cave spelunking. Writer/director/actor Paul Anthony Rogers created the mysterious isle as well as the killer monster inhabiting it in his first feature length directorial debut: Crypsis. From the opening credits we learn the title means “the ability of an animal to avoid observation by another organism"...
I owe a lot to author R.L. Stine and his series of Goosebumps books. These were the stories that took my hand like skeletal ferrymen and ushered me into the horror genre. My obsession was so great, I would trade action figures with kids on the bus just to get the latest book. So of course, when there's a chance for others to get their hands on these spooky guides, I'm going to shout it from the rooftops...

Night Shyamalan for Apple TV+, here's what you've missed so far: After the death of their infant son Jericho, Dorothy (Lauren Ambrose) and Sean Turner (Toby Kebbell) fill the void of their lost baby with an eerily realistic doll. Refusing to acknowledge the loss of her son, Dorothy continues to mother the doll while Sean neglects to inform friends and family of the passing of Jericho... The found footage genre has, over many years, kind of earned itself a bad reputation. It’s almost become a dirty word in the world of horror filmmaking. The concept of an entire film centered around characters finding footage that suggests a terrible series of events isn’t really novel anymore, but that’s not why people roll their eyes. The problem is an oversaturation of the genre, with varying levels of quality... |
