If you didn't already know, actress Bella Thorne is a badass... ...I've enjoyed the hell out of Thorne's work and loved her twisted role in The Babysitter, so it's exciting that Deadline has revealed that Thorne will star in the new post-apocalyptic flick from director Mitzi Peirone, The Uncanny! Written by Peirone and Chaya Doswell, the film sounds like a sci-fi blast with potential for some chilling revelations. In The Uncanny: "Every citizen is implanted with a chip capable of controlling everything from emotions to directions, until a routine update backfires, causing a cyber apocalypse. Wiping out most of humanity, five strangers miraculously survive, now forced to live hidden in a bunker with their implants ripped from their spines. They were the few lucky enough to survive – until Scarlet (Thorne) begins to suspect they were not saved at all, or by chance." Said producer Courtney Shepard to Deadline, "The story offers a timely and compelling glimpse into human’s dependence on technology and the greater evils of such addiction...We’re excited to have Bella on board for such a strong female-led team. I have no doubt Mitzi will craft something visually and thematically stunning.” The film will also be produced by Rebecca Berrih (Beyond the Sky) and Thor Bradwell (JT Leroy). Some of you may be familiar with Peirone's work, having written/directed Braid, a gorgeous, dark fairytale that has impressed viewers and critics alike. I have no doubt we can expect something equally breathtaking and unnerving with The Uncanny. By Matt Konopka
