The king may be back in comic form sooner than we thought...

...Most if not all of you are probably familiar with the Bruce Campbell starring film, Bubba Ho-Tep, directed by Don Coscarelli (Phantasm). Based on a short story from prolific horror author Joe R. Lansdale, Bubba Ho-Tep tells the story of a much older Elvis Presley (Campbell), who we discover traded places with an Elvis impersonator and is now living out his last days living at a retirement home where all he wants is to be able to get a proper hard on again. But when a soul-sucking mummy begins killing off his fellow retirees, Elvis takes it upon himself to kick some mummy butt.

The film has since grown in popularity with fans, but some may be unaware of the 5-part comic series from IDW based around Lansdale's character, Bubba Ho-Tep and the Cosmic Bloodsuckers. Written by Josh Jabcuga and based on Lansdale's novel, this particular Elvis tale sees the character become wrapped up with a rag-tag group of supernatural ass-kickers as they fight to contain a swarm of other-dimensional vampires. With the fourth issue releasing next week, this awesome series is almost over...but it may not be the last we see of good ole Bubba.

In response to Josh tweeting that "legends never die" in regards to the series, Lansdale replied with the following tweet:

And there's yhe time the gang fought a werewolf culture in Vegas...

Umm, what? Vegas? Werewolves? Elvis kicking werewolves in the crotch to see if Wolfman does indeed have nards? Sign me up! I reached out to Josh to see if he could confirm this potential continuation of the series, and he had this to say:
Now is a great time to be a fan of the Bubba characters and this groovy universe that Joe Lansdale has masterminded. If readers want to see more bubba adventures...please check out our current series (issue 4 drops next week)...and let your local comics shop and IDW Publishing hear your voices...because people are listening to what the fans want. And we are grateful for all the support", said Josh. He continued with one last interesting tidbit, "I can’t confirm anything. But I CAN say there are plenty of stories from the Bubba universe just waiting to be told. Time will tell..."
Josh also posted the following cryptic tweets:

Is @joelansdale getting the #BubbaHoTep band back together? Who’s interested?! What happens in Vegas *stays* in Vegas...unless IT escapes!□□ https://t.co/9MaQ2YqbBn

Maybe it's nothing, but it certainly seems as if we could see Elvis matching hairy knuckle with hairier werewolf knuckles in the future. Stay tuned, horror fans, and for now, make sure you're reading one of my favorite horror comics of the year, Bubba Ho-Tep and the Cosmic Bloodsuckers.
