In dark times, horror tends to be the genre which best explores the issues which are dividing society. Netflix will soon be exploring the horrors of migration with a new series from the creators of another hit Netflix show, Dark... ...Created by Baron bo Odar and Jantje Friese, the foreign-language show Dark is an expertly crafted horror series revolving around the disappearance of two young children in a small town. If you haven't seen it, it's a masterclass in atmosphere and terror. Now, the creators of the hit show are returning to Netflix with 1899, a show that explores the horrors of migration, a story which could not come at a more relevant time for Americans. Via Birth.Movies.Death: 1899 (is) a historical horror show about European migrants on their way to America. It'll follow a collection of migrants from all over Europe aboard a steamship from London to New York, who discover another such ship adrift in the ocean. According to Netflix, "what they find on board will turn their passage to the promised land into a horrifying nightmare." For some, this may actually sound a lot like AMC's The Terror, but with a politically-themed twist. As a huge fan of what that series accomplished, I'm all for this. Historical horror has plenty to offer fans, and I'm personally thrilled to see more projects taking us back in time and exposing us to horrors of the past which we may have forgotten. By Matt Konopka
