Oh New Mutants, you poor, poor, neglected child. Anyone who has been following New Mutants knows that this film has gone through quite a bit of hell since originally eyeing a release date two years ago, but it seems we're getting closer, as the director has announced a new trailer will be coming soon...
...Directed by Josh Boone and written by Boone and Knate Lee, New Mutants is based on the Marvel comics by Chris Claremont and Bob Mcleod, and was originally slated to release in 2017 from 20th Century Fox. The film hasn't had an easy road from the beginning.
For those that don't remember, New Mutants was originally pitched by Boone as more of a horror film that would likely have an R-rating. Long story short, there were disagreements on how to approach the film, such as, should it be R or PG-13, and just how "horror" should it be, and then of course, Disney merged with Fox, and the project has been in limbo since. A while back, Disney announced that the film would be receiving an April, 2020 release. Since then, fans have been clamoring for a look at the new cut, and it appears we're finally getting a new trailer next month, after the New Mutants Twitter account posted this interaction with Boone from Instagram:
We still don't know for sure if the film will be releasing in theaters or straight to VOD, but at this point, any news is good news, so fingers crossed that nothing happens between now and April to prevent New Mutants from releasing...again. In New Mutants:
"Five young mutants, just discovering their abilities while held in a secret facility against their will, fight to escape their past sins and save themselves."
The film stars Anya Taylor-Joy, Maisie Williams, Antonio Banderas, Alice Braga, Charlie Heaton, Blu Hunt, and Henry Zaga.
New Mutants (maybe) finally screams into theaters April 3rd, 2020. While we wait for the new trailer, refresh yourself with the trailer that originally released from 20th Century Fox two years ago.
