Immigration horror films are on the rise, and Gravitas Ventures now has one of their own coming our way... ...Via Deadline, Gravitas Ventures has acquired Motel Acacia for U.S. distribution from director Bradley Liew! Written by Liew and Bianca Balbuena, Motel Acacia is an English-language film that was co-produced between five Asian nations – Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Taiwan (with Slovenia) and deals with issues that hit all too close to home with many nations' anti-immigrant policies as of late. In Motel Acacia: "A young Filipino man is groomed by his tyrannical Caucasian father to take over Motel Acacia, which is tasked with exterminating immigrants by the government." Motel Acacia premiered in Tokyo International Film Festival’s Asian Competition last year and is set for its European premiere at Brussels Fantastic Fest in April. Gravitas Ventures is expected to give the film a limited theatrical run at some point. By Matt Konopka
