Just like in the 80s/early 90s, author Stephen King is all the rage again, with numerous adaptations of his works hitting the screen lately, including IT, The Dark Tower, Pet Sematary, and so on. Now, it appears we have another to add to the list in The Outsiders... ...Deadline is reporting that HBO has ordered a series based off of King's book, The Outsider, which will star Ben Mendelsohn (Bloodline), who will also produce. Actor Jason Bateman is on board to direct the first two episodes, with a script from producer Richard Price (Ransom). In The Outsider: A seemingly straightforward investigation into the gruesome murder of a local boy leads a seasoned cop and an unorthodox investigator to question everything they believe to be real, as an insidious supernatural force edges its way into the case." Media Rights Capital is producing along with Aggregate and Temple Hill Entertainment. Along with Price and Mendelsohn, Marty Bowen will executive produce along with Michael Costigan and Jack Bender. While I haven't had the pleasure of reading the 500+ page novel myself, it certainly sounds right up the alley of fellow King fans. By Matt Konopka
