Sink your fangs into this one, fam!... ...Via THR, Karyn Kusama, the incredibly talented director behind Jennifer's Body and The Invitation, is set to direct a new take on Dracula for Blumhouse! This news comes in the wake of the highly successful The Invisible Man remake currently slaying theaters. The script will be written by Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay, both of whom wrote The Invitation, and will take place in modern times. While you would think that the film would be coming from Universal as well, according to the site, the project isn't technically housed there yet, as Dracula is a public domain property. Still, seeing as how Universal was involved in The Invisible Man, it's hard to imagine they won't be involved here. The site also notes that Universal is highly invested in getting the stories right this time around, after the Tom Cruise starring The Mummy and others were unsuccessful with an action-oriented, big-budget focus. That's music to our ears, as the Universal monster movies are first and foremost about the characters, in the past having largely been about the tragedy of the monster. Currently, there are a few Universal monster movies in the works, including Dexter Fletcher’s Renfield, Elizabeth Banks’s The Invisible Woman, Matt Stawski’s Monster Mash, and the untitled monster movie being produced by James Wan which is rumored to be a new take on Frankenstein.
