![]() Things are about to get pretty hairy for Ryan Gosling... ...Via Variety, Universal is in development on a new Wolfman film with Ryan Gosling (Blade Runner 2049, Drive) in talks to star! The news comes on the heels of the huge success of Universal's recent The Invisible Man, the studio's latest attempt to inject new life into their monster universe. At this time, there is no director set for the film, though Corey Finley (HBO's "Bad Education") is rumored to be a candidate. According to the site, the new Wolfman is: "Believed to be set in present times and in the vein of Jake Gyllenhaal’s thriller “Nightcrawler,” with an obvious supernatural twist." Lauren Schuker Blum and Rebecca Angelo, who wrote for Netflix’s “Orange is the New Black,” penned the script, which is based on an original pitch by Gosling. The last time we saw Universal attempt a Wolfman remake was 2010's The Wolfman, starring Anthony Hopkins and Benicio Del Toro as the man cursed to be a man by day and a wolf by night. As an avid werewolf fan myself, and with the site noting that this new take falls more in line with Universal's current approach to their classic monsters such as The Invisible Man and it's small-scale terror, there is a lot to be excited about over this. Gosling is a phenomenal actor and will surely make a great Wolfman, and there is no doubt Universal's intention here is to make the film first and foremost, scary. By Matt Konopka
