Well this is a surprise... ...Not long ago, we learned that director Scott Derrickson had stepped down from directing Marvel's sequel to Doctor Strange entitled Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness (a title many of took as a reference to John Carpenter's In the Mouth of Madness). The film was reported to lean heavily into horror, and so when Derrickson stepped down over "creative differences", we all assumed it was because Marvel may not be going as deeply into horror as we had hoped with the film. Via Variety, in what is some shocking news, Evil Dead director Sam Raimi is now in talks to direct Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness! According to the site, Derrickson will remain an executive producer. Sam Raimi is no stranger to the superhero film, having directed the original Spider-Man trilogy and Darkman, and you could argue that Ash from the Evil Dead franchise pretty much became his own superhero. While there is no done deal yet, Raimi could certainly be the right fit for the job, as he has a way of darkening up films, while still managing to keep them family friendly...when he wants to. More details here as we learn them. By Matt Konopka
