Here we are Mutant fam, the moment you've all been waiting for...
...Since the second season 2 of Joe Bob Briggs' The Last Drive-In ended, fans have been clamoring for Shudder to renew the show. Well, today Shudder has announced that they will not only be renewing The Last Drive-In for a third season, but will be releasing a special "summer sleepover" this August featuring guest director Adam Green (Hatchet) and other surprise guests!
Said Joe Bob Briggs, “I can’t believe it’s only been two years since that first marathon called 'The Last Drive-In'...To have a third season, and continue to experience the love and encouragement that daily pours out of the Shudder community, is more than I could ever have hoped for. It’s been a very difficult year for all of us, but I hope we can continue to be a little oasis where people come to celebrate holidays and weekends and that special family feeling that only horror fans know.”
While there is no date on when the third season will premiere outside of it will be coming in 2021, the summer special, which Shudder notes was filmed before quarantine, will arrive on August 14th at 9pm ET/6pm PT, streaming live on Shudder TV. Shudder also stated that there are plans for multiple Last Drive-In specials throughout the year.
All of that is music to the Mutant Fam's ears. Rest easy, fam. We'll have plenty of Joe Bob and Darcy the Mail Girl to keep us entertained throughout the rest of the otherwise shitty year that is 2020.
