Sony and Amazon Team with 'Witching and Bitching' Director for 'The Fear Collection', A Series of Cosmic Horror Films!

Sounds like we have a handful of Spanish cosmic horror films headed our way...

...Via Variety, Sony Pictures International Productions and Amazon Prime Video have closed a multi-picture deal with Spanish director Alex de la Iglesia (the director behind the highly entertaining Witching and Bitching) to produce a horror feature film anthology of films entitled The Fear Collection!

​The deal will see Iglesia direct and or produce movies from The Fear Collection. 

Produced in association with Amazon Prime Video, the films will initially release theatrically through Sony Pictures Entertainment Iberia. They will then be made available on Amazon Prime in Spain. 

According to the site, several projects are currently in development for The Fear Collection, with established writers and directors such as De la Iglesia teaming with his longterm co-writer Jorge Guerricaechevarría as well as Jaume Balagueró (REC), Paula Ortiz (The Bride) Fernando Navarro (Verónica) and Carlos Theron (I Can Quit Whenever I Want). 

Said Iglesia, "It’s an ambitious project that I’ve been hauling around for years. The concept is to make a collection of films that unveil a universe of horror beyond time. The characters face supernatural forces that threaten humanity. The idea is to generate a label of films with a specific character, Cosmic Horror.”

A series of cosmic horror films? Count us in! Perhaps we'll see Iglesia and company dabble in a bit of Lovecraft as well. Time will tell.
