And so it begins... ...Via THR, Matthew Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, the directors behind Ready or Not, have been tapped to direct a reboot of Wes Craven's Scream! Their partner, Chad Villela, will produce. This is actually a perfect hire, as Ready or Not is a fantastic blend of comedy and horror, with loads of gore, and these are the ingredients which make up the best entries in the Scream franchise! The original Scream came around in 1996 and, directed by Craven and written by Kevin Williamson, was a smash hit about a group of teens stalked by a masked killer that liked to toy with his victims using references to horror films. The meta commentary on slasher films became a cult hit and, for better or worse, inspired an entire generation of meta horror films that consistently poked fun at themselves, to varying degrees of success. One of the staples of the Scream franchise is the way in which each film commentates on current genre trends. While we still don't know if the film will officially be a reboot or potentially a sequel, we would expect the film will continue that trend, perhaps taking a tongue in cheek approach to reboots, or maybe even that horrible term, "elevated horror". Spyglass Media is producing the project. By Matt Konopka
