This past Wednesday, I had the privilege of being able to see The House that Jack Built Director's Cut during it's one night only screening. Turns out, I wasn't the only one excited to check it out...

...Written/directed by Lars von Trier (Antichrist), IFC decided to put out the director's cut of the film for one night only on a limited number of screens (140, to be exact). So, how did fans respond to the special opportunity to see a cut of the film that the stick-up-their-butts MPAA wouldn't allow them to?

Box Office Mojo is reporting that the film pulled in over 170K, over half of what the director's previous film, Nymphomaniac, pulled in. And for more comparison's sake, Robin Hood, which is playing on nearly three thousand screens, pulled in a measly 200 bucks per screen, compared to The House that Jack Built's massive 1,230 per screen. So yeah, you could say it did pretty well.

Does this mean that The House that Jack Built is going to blow open the box office? Not necessarily. This was, after all, a one time screening, which has a certain appeal that a wide release doesn't necessarily have. But if it's any indication, it would seem that audiences are eager to see the film, and they should be, because in my opinion, it's a masterpiece (you can check out my review here).

In The House that Jack Built:
"The story follows Jack, a highly intelligent serial killer, over the course of twelve years, and depicts the murders that really develop his inner madman."
The House that Jack Built slashes onto screens December 14th, 2018.
