We've been waiting eagerly to see what the new The Grudge film would have in store in terms of the gore department. Well, a new red-band trailer released this morning, and... ...Produced by the legendary Sam Raimi and written/directed by Niclas Pesce (The Eyes of My Mother), The Grudge is a companion piece to the 2004 film of the same name starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, which supposedly takes place at the same time as those events. Star Lin Shaye has already been quoted saying "this is a horror film. This is real horror," and based on what this trailer shows and with the mind of Pesce behind the film, I believe her. In terms of gore and outright terror, Pesce's version seems to be a far cry from the somewhat tame 2004 film. In The Grudge, based on the film Ju-on: The Grudge, written and directed by Takashi Shimizu: A detective (Andrea Riseborough) investigates a string of deaths all stemming from an old house. When she enters the house, a violent curse latches onto her, one that brings about Kayako and her iconic, long black hair. The Grudge haunts theaters on January 3rd, 2020. By Matt Konopka
