If you’re a hardcore horror fan like me, then you probably feel like you’ve seen and done just about everything there is in the genre. You want to be scared again. You crave it. You need it. You’d do anything to get it. So, what if you got the chance to participate in a dangerous game that allowed you to live out a real-life slasher? While the film itself won’t give you that kind of scare, that’s the premise at the heart of Ruin Me…

Late last night, it was revealed during San Diego Comic-Con's event, "Scare Diego", that James Wan's Conjuring universe will be continuing with a third Annabelle film. At first, I wasn't all that excited because frankly, I'm over the Annabelle doll. But then I got to thinking, and realized this film could have a momentous impact on the universe which Wan and New Line have built...

[Review] "Dead Life" is better off just staying dead

Raise your hand if you love zombies. That’s what I thought. As horror fans, most of us can’t get enough of those walking brain munchers. Now, raise your hand if you enjoy zombie stories that feel like every other zombie story ever told. Probably fewer hands, right? If you DID raise your hand, then don’t worry, because Dead Life has you covered…

Yesterday, we mourned the loss of a legend as we remembered the one year anniversary of the passing of George. A. Romero. Regarded as the "Godfather of the Dead", Romero was largely known for his zombie films which began with Night of the Living Dead (1968). But what about his other films which have been largely overshadowed by hordes of the walking dead?...

[Review] "To Hell and Back: The Kane Hodder Story" is an emotional journey that will delight fans

7/16/2018

Before I ever watched a Friday the 13th film, I knew one thing: That Kane Hodder IS Jason Voorhees. So, you can imagine my surprise as a kid when I found out that no, Kane is not in every Friday film, and in fact only plays Jason in four out of the ten films (three at the time of this discovery, before Jason X was a thing). Yet those few films were enough to cement Kane as one of the great, all time horror legends. But there’s more to Kane than being the man in the hockey mask. Hailing from Dread Central Presents, To Hell and Back: The Kane Hodder Story sets out to show us who the man behind that mask really is…

Last night, the hotly anticipated The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs premiered live on Shudder. As the one time only return of a horror legend, many expected the event to be a big one. But no one could have predicted the monstrous turn out Shudder received, and I couldn't be more thrilled...

By now, many of you have probably heard that the beloved Fangoria magazine is returning, thanks to the Texas based company, Cinestate, flying in like some caped crusader to save the day. But what you may not know, is that in September, Fangoria will be launching their own line of Fangoria presents books, beginning with a seedy horror novel that is sure to inspire chills and thrills amongst fans, Our Lady of the Inferno…

Why tuning into "The Last Drive-In" with Joe Bob Briggs on Shudder tomorrow matters

If someone were to ask me what was the best part about being a horror fan when I was a kid in the 90s, what was the thing I enjoyed most, that I could look forward to, it was always discovering new or unheard of gems that hadn’t planted dynamite at the base of my brain and blown it to smithereens yet. And my favorite way to do that was to tune into the various horror hosts that populated late night TV on the weekends, in particular, Joe Bob Briggs on TNT with his show, Monstervision…

A sneak peek at "The Complete History of the Howling"!

In college, I once had an argument at a party that The Howling was an incredible film that deserved more respect. When I met with push back from everyone around me, I howled about it so loudly that I ended up getting the owner of the apartment fined due to a noise complaint. You know, the way a sane person would do. Ever since I first witnessed Joe Dante’s outrageous exhibition of werewolf effects and hair-raising humor, I have been a huge fan, which is why I’m thrilled to present this preview of The Complete History of the Howling…

[Review] "The First Purge" is heavy on social commentary, not on horror

7/10/2018

When The Purge first showed up in 2013, I don’t think Blumhouse knew what they had in relation to socio-political trends. It was merely an interesting concept about a “much needed release” for America in which citizens were allowed to purge their anger and commit acts of violence for twelve hours without worry of any consequences. Now, five years later, the films in this franchise have continued to evolve into political thrillers with a heavy social commentary, and The First Purge could not be any more relevant to what is happening in America today…
