Ah, another day, another mediocre ghost film. Haunting films are all the rage as of late, and why not, with films like The Nun and Annabelle: Creation doing gangbusters at the box office? Partnered with Hulu, Blumhouse recently premiered Into the Dark, a series which will present one FEATURE LENGTH episode every month, each dealing with a different holiday. First up? The Body, a bloody, fun tribute to Halloween, just in time to get the October season going the right way… As horror fans, we’re always looking for that next film that’s going to actually scare us. Years of watching the genre leaves most of us as desensitized zombies begging for something shocking. For some fans though, the films aren’t enough. They’re looking for the next level of scares, something that feels real, in the realm of “extreme haunts”, haunted houses which allow participants to be touched, tortured, locked up, and sometimes worse. It’s with this idea that Dread Central Present’s new film, Extremity, picks up… Back in 1995, the horror anthology Tales from the Hood was released, a film which told different horror stories primarily taking place within the black community. The film is a deeply intelligent movie with commentary on systemic racism from all levels that is severely underrated or underseen by mainstream audiences. Now, the filmmakers have returned with Tales from the Hood 2, and in a society where many of the issues written about in 1995 seem more prevalent than ever, this sequel has plenty to say…
